Conflict management is the practice to identifying and handling conflict in a sensible, fair and efficient manner. You may define conflict management as “the opportunity to improve situations and strengthen relationship.”
Every organization encounter conflict on a daily basis. The conflicts cannot be avoided, but it is possible to manage them in a way that we recognize them on time.
Two types of conflict.
1. Functional conflict:
When all of them work together to achieved organization goals.
2. Dysfunctional conflict:
Blocks an organization or group from reaching its goals.
Conflict management requires such skills:
- Effective communication
- Problem solving❤
- Negotiating in proper manner
- Good and patience listener
Some steps for handling conflict.
- Decide if you have a misunderstanding or a disagreement
- Define the problem and collect facts
- Generate options for mutual gain
Why does conflict occur?
- Misunderstanding
- Poor communication
- Different knowledge
- Stress
- Fear
Conflict maybe Constructive or Destructive.
Constructive in a sense when:
- Open up issues of important
- Increase individual involvement
- Help builds cohesiveness as people learn more about each other
Destructive in a sense when:
- Polarize groups so that cooperation is reduced
- Divert energy from more important tasks and issues
- Deepens differences in values
Views about conflict:
- Traditional view: In this they belief all conflicts are harmful and avoided.
- Human relations view: They belief that conflict is a natural and inevitable outcome in any group.
- Integrationist view: They belief that conflict is not only a positive force in group but that it is absolutely necessary for a group to perform effectively.
